Jacks Sweep Doubleheader Against TAMU-CC

A 10-strikeout performance from Crimson Bryant and a complete game shutout from Amelia Hatthorn shut down the Islanders.
NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team began their final Southland Conference series with a Friday afternoon doubleheader against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Game 1: SFA 5, TAMU-CC 2
SFA got the scoring started in the bottom of the first after Adelyn Becerra hit a double to center then was brought in by a Morgan Wright single through the left side, 1-0. In the bottom of the second the Jacks doubled their lead off a solo homerun from Malia Jones to left field, her tenth blast of the season, 2-0. The Islanders scratched across a run in the top of the third to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. After a scoreless inning and a half, SFA got another run on the board with a double steal by Ellie Vance and Kylie Bishop, 3-1. TAMU-CC would not go down without a fight as they scored another run in the top of the sixth to make it a one-run game, 3-2. Kara Pride began the hit parade in the bottom of the sixth with a single through the right side. After she stole second base, Jamie Varga hit an RBI single up the middle to bring Pride home, 4-2. Ellie Vance took advantage of a massive defensive shift by the Islanders and dropped a triple into right center to score Varga, 5-2. Crimson Bryant slammed the door on the Islanders in the top of the seventh as she picked up her tenth strikeout to end the game.
Game 2: SFA 11, TAMU-CC 0
Once again, the SFA offense got on the board quick after Vance doubled down the left field line then Becerra and Wright drew back-to-back walks to load up the bases for Malia Jones. Jones grounded out to short, but it gave Vance time to score, 1-0. Kaylee Paul followed with a two-RBI single to left field, 3-0. In the bottom of the second, Kylie Bishop hit a leadoff double to left center and was moved over to third on a sac bunt from Varga. Vance brought in Bishop on a double through the right side, 4-0. Becerra followed with an RBI single down the left field line, 5-0. Wright singled through the left side to put two on for Jones. Jones hit an RBI single through the left side to score Becerra, 6-0. After Paul moved the runners to second and third, Kyi'Marri Ester hit a two-RBI single through the left side, 8-0. Bishop capped off the six-run second inning with an RBI single to left field, 9-0. After a scoreless third inning, SFA continued to pour it on in the fourth with a leadoff walk from Jones followed by a single from Paul to put two runners on for Ester. Ester repeated her previous at bat with a RBI single through the left side to score Sammy Hagman, 10-0. Lilly Bean followed with an RBI single to right field, 11-0. Amelia Hatthorn struck out two of the final three batters she faced in the top of the fifth to secure a dominant 11-0 win and pick up her tenth win of the season.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Three Lumberjacks recorded two hits in game one.
• Four different Jacks recorded an RBI in game one.
• Crimson Bryant pitched a complete game only allowing one earned run and struck out 10 batters which is the second time this season she has recorded 10+ strikeouts in a single game.
• Six Lumberjacks recorded two hits in game two.
• Kyi'Marri Ester led the team going 2-2 with 3 RBIs. Kaylee Paul and Malia Jones each recorded 2 RBIs.
