5/2/2026 2:54:00 PM | Softball
Down to their last out, a solo homerun from Kara Pride sent the game to extras where SFA scored two in the ninth to win.
LAKE CHARLES, La.- The Stephen F. Austin softball team face the Northwestern State Demons in an elimination game on Saturday afternoon.
SFA took the lead in the first inning after a leadoff triple from Jamie Varga was followed by a walk from Ellie Vance to put runners on the corners for Morgan Wright who groundout to second base which gave Varga time to score, 1-0. After a scoreless second inning, NSU responded in the bottom of the third with one run, 1-1. The Demons took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, 2-1.
After two quick outs in the top of the seventh, Kara Pride came in to pinch hit with the Jacks' season on the line and sent her third homerun of the season over the right field wall to tie the game at 2. Amelia Hatthorn shut down the Demon offense in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. Neither offense scored in eighth, but Kaylee Paul led off the ninth inning with a double to left center and then was bunted over to third. Pride came up for a second time and drew a walk to put runners on the corners with one out. Lilly Bean executed a perfect squeeze bunt to score Paul, 3-2. Kylie Bishop followed that up with an insurance run with an RBI single down the right field line, 4-2. NSU loaded up the bases in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but Hatthorn struck out the final batter of the game to secure the win for the Jacks.
