Lumberjacks Fall to Cowgirls in SLC Bracket Play

SFA will face Northwestern State in the consolation bracket tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
LAKE CHARLES, La.- The Stephen F. Austin softball team began their journey in the SLC Tournament against the No. 2 seeded McNeese Cowgirls.
McNeese got on the board fast in the bottom of the first as they took a 3-0 lead. The Jacks responded with three straight singles in the top of the second to load up the bases for Lilly Bean who ripped a two-RBI single to left center, 3-2. SFA tied the game up in the top of the fourth after a leadoff triple by Kaylee Paul brought up Malia Jones who hit a sacrifice fly to right field, 3-3. The Cowgirls retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homerun, 5-3. In the top of the sixth, Morgan Wright crushed her first collegiate homerun over the scoreboard in left field to cut the deficit to one, 5-4. The Jacks got the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, but were unable to get anyone across home as McNeese won the game 5-4.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Ellie Vance, Kaylee Paul, and Morgan Wright each recorded two hits.
• Lilly Bean led the team with two RBIs while Malia Jones and Wright each recorded one.
• Paul hit her fourth triple of the season and has taken the team lead.
• Amelia Hatthorn pitched 5.1 innings of relief allowing three hits, two runs, and striking out four batters.
