‘Jacks Fall to Lions in Winner’s Bracket Matchup

HAMMOND, La.- The Stephen F. Austin softball team (27-28) faced off against No. 2 Southeastern Louisiana Lions (45-13) in a winner's bracket matchup.
With threatening clouds looming, the start of the game was moved up a half hour, but the rain made a quick appearance in the second inning when the Lions were able to strike first. SLU scored four in the bottom of the second and three in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Both pitchers were able to put together three scoreless innings until the top of the seventh.
The Lions got two quick outs in the seventh, but with the 'Jacks down to their last out Kaylee Paul, Mikaelah Burkland, and Hope Lusk hit back-to-back-to-back singles. With Lusk's single to right field, Paul had enough time to score from second, 7-1. Ellie Vance followed that up with an RBI triple which plated both Burkland and Lusk, 7-3. Ella Hill and Adelyn Becerra drew back-to-back walks to load up the bases. Sadly, that is as far as the 'Jacks got as the Lions got the final out of the game.

SFA will face No. 3 Nicholls in an elimination game tomorrow, May 3rd, at 1:00 p.m.
