
Lumberjacks Split Opening Day at ETAMU Leadoff

Game 1:
SFA got the bats started early as Hope Lusk hit a double to right center. Ella Hill followed up with her first RBI as a Lumberjack with a double to right field that brought in Lusk, 1-0. Gabby Coffey drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Lilly Bean also recorded her first RBI as a 'Jack with a single down the right field line that scored Sammy Hagman, 2-0.
In the top of the second, Ellie Vance stepped up to bat with the bases loaded and grounded out to second, but that allowed Kaylee Paul to score from third, 3-0. Two batters later, Coffey stepped up with the bases juiced and smacked a single to left center which brought in Mikaelah Burkland and Lusk, 5-0. The scoring would not stop there as two batters later, Chloe Reneau doubled down the left field line that scored Coffey and Hill, 7-0. The 'Jacks batted around as Paul returned to the plate for the second time in the inning and hit a single up the middle that scored Lilly Bean, 8-0.
Texas Southern scored one run in the bottom of the third, 8-1. In the top of the fourth, Burkland hit an RBI single to left center that brought in Paul, 9-1. Lusk followed that up with an RBI single to shortstop, 10-1.
SFA would finish their scoring in the top of the fifth with an RBI from Camryn Mille, 11-1. Jamie Varga hit a triple in her first collegiate start that brought in Mille, 12-1. Paul was not done driving in runs as she singled to the pitcher and brought in Varga, 13-1. The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough as the 'Jacks secured a run-rule 13-3 victory. Starter Alexis Telford earned her first win of the season against the Tigers.

Game 2:
Brooke Gainous earned the start against South Dakota State for game two of the ETAMU Leadoff. South Dakota State hit a two-run home run in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Jackrabbits repeated that with another two-run home run in the third to take a 4-0 lead. SDSU hit their third home run of the game in the top of the fourth, 5-0.
SFA got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a triple from Varga, her second of the day, 5-1. Paul brought Varga in on an RBI single down the left field line, 5-2. SDSU hit their fourth home run of the game in the sixth inning and extended their lead to 8-2 and added on another run to make it 9-2 at the end of the top of the sixth. However, the Lumberjacks would not go away quietly as Hill smashed a two-run home run to left center to make it 9-4. SFA was unable to mount a comeback in the seventh inning and fell to the Jackrabbits, 9-4.
