Lumberjacks at a Glance:
SFA is starting off the 2025 season at ETAMU Leadoff. Seniors to watch this season: Pitcher Brooke Gainous had 45 strikeouts last season. Another pitcher for the Lumberjacks, Alexis Telford, had a fantastic season last year with 68 strikeouts and a batting average of .265. Ellie Vance at second base last year for her first season with the Lumberjacks had 52 putouts and a fielding percentage of .951. After losing a few players, they gained a few transfers: Gabby Coffey, a catcher and infielder from Mississippi State, Ella Hill, a catcher from Texas Tech, and Adelyn Becerra, a catcher from Tyler Junior College. The 'Jacks also had eight freshmen come in last fall.

Texas Southern Tigers at a Glance:
At bat, players like Pairs Johnson and Marisa Perla will be a threat from the plate. Last season, Johnson had a batting average of .411 and recorded 57 putouts. Perla had a .236 batting average for her freshman season and an SLG% of .355. On the mound, Kaelani Randle, Melonie Guardiola, and Kristen Driver are their returning pitchers. Laney Carr, Marissa Martinez, and Paris Johnson should be making plays in the infield and outfield. Nine freshmen joined the Tigers this last fall, and with three transfers, they have a whole new set of faces out on the field.
SFA vs South Dakota State University
Date: Friday and Saturday, February 7th & 8th
Time: 11:30 a.m/ 9:00 a.m.
Jackrabbits at a Glance:
With 14 freshmen coming in last fall, the Jackrabbits should see a significant change in their team. Last year, they went 14-2 in the conference, so they will be a challenging team to face. Mia Jareki will be a player to look for an at-bat and in the infield. Last season, she had 9 home runs, a batting average of .392, and 75 putouts. Losing Tori Knishesche and Shannon Lasey at the mound leaves the Jackrabbits looking for who will fill that role. Akayla Barnard, a returning pitcher, and a transfer, Madi Mangulis, could take it. Infielder Madi Conklin had 15 putouts in one game last season, a team-high. The Jackrabbits were picked to finish second in the Summit League with Jarecki and Barnard earning spots on the players to watch list.
SFA vs University of South Dakota
Date: Saturday and Sunday, February 8th & 9th
Time: 11:30 a.m./ 9:00 a.m.
Coyotes at a Glance:
The final team the Lumberjacks will face this weekend is the University of South Dakota. Clara Edwards, Delaney White, and Rylie Jones are all returning hitters for the Coyotes. Edwards had 121 strikeouts last year, the highest on the team. White had 168 at-bats last year with a .278 batting average and is a threat in the field, recording 326 putouts last season, the highest on the team. Jones was successful behind the plate and in the field with a .924% fielding percentage. McKenna Young is the other returning pitcher who had 78 strikeouts last season as a freshman, and two freshmen, Madison Evans and Campbell German, will join them on the mound. The Coyotes were picked to finish third in the Summit League with Tatum Villotta and Edwards earning a spot on the players to watch list.
