Jacks Fall to Colonels in Series Finale

THIBODAUX, La.- The Stephen F. Austin softball team wrapped up their first conference series at Nicholls on Saturday afternoon. Both teams were looking to come out on top and secure their first Southland series win of the 2026 season.
After a scoreless first inning from Molly Yoo for the Colonels and Jordyn Ages for the Lumberjacks, Nicholls got on the board with five runs in the bottom of the second, 5-0. SFA responded in the top of the third with a leadoff triple from Kaylee Paul who was then brought in by Jamie Varga on a groundout, 5-1. The Colonels added another run on the board before they hit a grand slam to take a commanding 10-1 lead. A three up, three down inning for the Jacks offense in the fourth meant they needed to plate at least two runs in the top of the fifth to keep the game going. After two quick strikeouts, Paul and Varga each hit a single up the middle to put two runners on, but the comeback ended there for the Lumberjacks.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Ellie Vance and Kaylee Paul each recorded two hits today.
• Jamie Varga recorded the lone RBI for the Jacks.
• Paul hit her second triple in back-to-back games.
UP NEXT
The Lumberjacks will head to Huntsville for a midweek Battle of the Piney Woods on the diamond as they face off against the Sam Houston Bearkats on Tuesday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m.
