Lumberjacks Fall to Bearkats

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team wrapped up their four-game homestand against the Sam Houston Bearkats in the Battle of the Piney Woods.
SFA got the offense started with a bang in the bottom of the first after Adelyn Becerra reached on a fielding error that scored Jamie Varga from second, 1-0. Morgan Wright followed that with an RBI double down the left field line, 2-0. Singles from Kaylee Paul and Lilly Bean loaded up the bases for Ella Hill who hit a single to left field where a fielding miscue allowed all runs to score, 5-0. After a scoreless second inning, Sam Houston got all their runs back with five in the top of the third, 5-5. Paul hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the third followed by a walk drawn by Malia Jones put two runners on for an RBI single to right center from Bean, 6-5. Both pitchers recorded scoreless fourth and fifth innings before the Bearkats tied the game back up in the top of the sixth, 6-6. Sam plated the game-winning run in the top of the seventh and shut the door on an SFA comeback after a leadoff single from Kyi'Marri Ester was unable to get around the bases, 7-6.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Four Lumberjacks recorded two hits: Ellie Vance, Morgan Wright, Kaylee Paul, Lilly Bean.
• Paul led the team with two runs scored.
• Ella Hill led the Jacks with three RBIs.
• Kai Hudson pitched 3.2 innings in relief of starter Crimson Bryant and allowed five hits and one earned run while striking out three batters.
