
Jacks Split Doubleheader with Colonels to Open Conference Play

After falling in the first game, the Lumberjacks bounced back in the second game, 6-2.
THIBODAUX, La.- The Stephen F. Austin softball team traveled to Nicholls to open their 2026 conference schedule with a Friday doubleheader.
Game 1: Nicholls 8, SFA 3
Nicholls got on the board early with five runs in the first inning and two in the second, 7-0. After both pitchers recorded scoreless third and fourth innings, Malia Jones hit her seventh home run of the season on the first pitch she saw after a lightning delay, 7-1. After two quick outs, Jamie Varga hit a single up the middle, then Morgan Wright followed with a single through the left side, then Ellie Vance and Adelyn Becerra hit back-to-back RBI singles to cut the deficit to four, 7-3. The Colonels tacked on another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, 8-3.
Game 2: SFA 6, Nicholls 2
The Jacks got on the board early with two outs in the first inning as Vance reached on an error then Becerra hit an RBI double to score Vance, 1-0. Kai Hudson earned the start in the circle for the Lumberjacks and held Nicholls scoreless for the first three innings. The Colonels tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth and took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, 2-1. SFA's offense exploded in the top of the sixth inning with a leadoff triple from Becerra who then scored on a wild pitch, 2-2. Jones and Kylie Bishop each drew walks and then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch before Ella Hill walked the bases loaded. Kaylee Paul stepped up to the plate and crushed a triple to center field to clear the bases, 5-2. After Varga drew a walk, Varga and Paul executed a double steal to scratch across the final run of the game 6-2. Hudson continued her dominance in the circle by getting seven of her final eight batters she faced out.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Adelyn Becerra led the team with two hits in each game, going 4-6 from the plate with two RBIs, one run, one double, and one triple.
• Kaylee Paul led the team with three RBIs.
• Ellie Vance and Malia Jones each recorded an RBI.
• Crimson Bryant and Kai Hudson each pitched complete games.
• Hudson allowed one earned run and struck out three.
• Bryant struck out four batters in the first game of the doubleheader.
