Lumberjacks Split Doubleheader Against Cardinals

After a seventh-inning comeback in game one, the Jacks fell in game two to a three-run walk-off home run.
BEAUMONT, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team traveled to Beaumont for a three-game series against the Lamar Cardinals.
Game 1: SFA 4, Lamar 2
Lamar got on the board first in the bottom of the second with one run and added another run in the bottom of the fourth, 2-0. Both pitchers held the offenses scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings. However, the Cardiac Jacks would not go down without a fight as an Ellie Vance single and a defensive error scored Jamie Varga, 2-1. Kyi'Marri Ester hit a double to right field to give the Jacks the lead, 3-2. Ella Hill capped off the scoring with a single to left field, 4-2. Amelia Hatthorn pitched 3.2 innings of relief and went 11 up, 11 down with three strikeouts.
Game 2: Lamar 6, SFA 5
Adelyn Becerra got the Jacks scoring going in the top of the third with a two-RBI single to left field which cleared the bases due to a defensive error from the Cardinals, 3-0. Malia Jones scored Becerra from second, 4-0. Lamar got two runs back in the bottom of the third, 4-2. Jones recorded her second RBI single of the game to score the fifth run of the game, 5-2. Lamar scored one run in the fifth to cut the lead to two, 5-3. With runners on second and third, the Cardinals hit a walk-off home run to left center to win the game, 6-5.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Ellie Vance and Lilly Bean were 3-4 in the first game of the doubleheader.
• Kyi'Marri Ester, Malia Jones, and Adelyn Becerra each recorded 2 RBIs today.
• Amelia Hatthorn pitched 7.2 innings of relief work and recorded five strikeouts on the day.
