Lumberjacks Drop Series Finale to Cardinals

BEAUMONT, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team wrapped up their weekend series against the Lamar Cardinals on Saturday afternoon.
SFA got on the board first with an RBI single from Adelyn Becerra which scored Jamie Varga from second, 1-0. Lamar tied the game in the bottom of the first and took the lead in the bottom of the second, 2-1. Malie Jones drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game back up at two. Kara Pride followed that with a two-RBI double to deep center field, 4-2. The Cardinals scored two more runs to tie the game back up at four. Lilly Bean gave the Jacks the lead back in the top of the sixth with a double to the gap in right center which scored pinch runner, Alexis Grigsby from first, 5-4. A three-run sixth inning from the Cardinals gave Lamar a 7-5 lead with SFA having one more chance to extend the game. Jones recorded her second hit of the day with a single to center then advanced to second on a Kylie Bishop single to right field, but SFA was unable to get any runs across.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Jamie Varga and Malia Jones each recorded two hits.
• Kara Pride led the team with 2 RBIs with Adelyn Becerra, Malia Jones and Lilly Bean recording the other three RBIs.
• Jordyn Ages got the start in the circle and recorded two strikeouts.
