Jacks Fall to Jackrabbits in ETAMU Leadoff Finale

SFA finishes opening weekend with a 4-1 record
COMMERCE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team wrapped up their slate at the East Texas A&M Leadoff with a rematch against South Dakota State.
SDSU got on the board with one run in the bottom of the first and tacked on two more in the bottom of the second to take an early 3-0 lead. Both pitchers had a three up, three down third inning and then held both offenses scoreless through the fourth and fifth innings.
SFA responded in the sixth inning with Malia Jones hitting her first home run of the season with a two-run blast to left field to cut the deficit to one, 3-2. The Jackrabbits added an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead, 4-2. The Jacks need two to push the game into extras, but the first two batters struck out before Ellie Vance hit a two out single. Morgan Wright then reached first on a SDSU error which put two on base for Jones with two outs. Jones hit an RBI single that scored Vance from second, 4-3. The comeback was short lived as the next Lumberjack batter struck out to secure a 4-3 win for the SDSU Jackrabbits.
POSTGAME NOTES
• SFA finishes the ETAMU Leadoff with a 4-1 record which is their best start under Head Coach, Jeff Jackson.
• Malia Jones recorded all three RBIs for the Lumberjacks.
• Ellie Vance and Lilly Bean each recorded two hits with Jones.
• In the circle, Crimson Bryant pitched 4.2 innings and recorded seven strikeouts.
UP NEXT
SFA will make a quick trip over to Monroe, Louisiana for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, February 10 at 6:00 p.m. against the ULM Warhawks.
