SFA Sweeps Series Against ETAMU with Second Consecutive Walk-Off Run-Rule
4/9/2025 5:49:00 PM | Softball
NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team (23-19, 12-6 SLC) finished the midweek conference series against East Texas A&M (9-32, 5-13 SLC).
After Reagan Hall recorded a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts, the 'Jacks offense started right where they left off as Ellie Vance singled to the shortstop which brought up Lilly Bean. Bean showed her power from the plate as she smashed a ball just over the fence down the left field line to score the first two runs of the game, 2-0. The next score came in the bottom of the third after back-to-back singles from Kaylee Paul and Mikaelah Burkland put two runners on for Hope Lusk who skied a ball into right field for a sacrifice fly to bring in Paul, 3-0.
The 'Jacks did not take their foot off the gas as they continued to pour on the runs in the fourth. It all started with a leadoff solo shot to left field from Adelyn Becerra to put SFA up 4-0. Ella Hill followed that up with a double, then Jamie Varga hit a single to second base, then Chloe Reneau hit a sacrifice fly to left field which gave Sammy Hagman enough time to score the fifth run of the game for SFA. Paul then drew a walk which put runners on first and second for Burkland who sent a ball out to left field that dropped in for an RBI single to score Varga, 6-0. With runners on second and third and one out, Hope Lusk reached on a fielder's choice and a throwing error by the Lions third baseman allowed Paul to score, 7-0. The next inning, Becerra hit a leadoff double to put a runner in scoring position with the chance to secure another walk-off run-rule victory. That is just what Varga did when she smoked a ball in between the first and second basemen to bring in Becerra for the final run of the game, 8-0.
