CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team (26-22, 14-9 SLC) started their final road conference series with a doubleheader against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (9-34, 3-20 SLC).
Game 1:
In the first game of the series, the Islanders got on the board in the first inning after the Lumberjack defense struggled with the gusty winds, 1-0. The 'Jacks got on the board in the sixth after Hope Lusk drew a walk and then Ellie Vance smoked a singled through the left side which scored Sammy Hagman from second, 1-1. After a scoreless seventh, SFA started off the top of the eighth with a leadoff double from Lusk who advanced to third on a missed play by the Islanders defense. Vance stepped up to put the 'Jacks ahead which is just what she did as she dropped in a single to left field to bring in Lusk for the go-ahead run. In the bottom of the eighth, Telford quickly got the first out, but the next batter reached on an error to bring the go-ahead run to the plate for TAMUCC.
