THIBODEAUX, Louisiana - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (10-17, 2-17 SLC) lost the first game of their three-game series against the Nicholls Colonels (14-24, 7-15 SLC) this evening, 5-3.
Both offenses started slow, as neither team scored in the first two innings. Lumberjacks starter Cody Templeton was keeping the Colonel bats off balance, as he picked up two strikeouts in the first inning.
In the third, the Lumberjacks started the scoring. After singles from Ethan Adkisson and Cermodrick Bland, Josh Ibe worked a walk, loading the bases for Mark Henning. Henning would then reach on a fielding error by the pitcher, scoring Cooper Schneider, who had reached on a fielder's choice. In the bottom half of the inning, Nicholls got one back to even the score at one going into the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Nicholls would string together six hits, scoring four runs to take a 5-1 lead after four innings. Mark Henning then hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Schneider to cut the Colonel's lead to 5-3.
