SFA one win away from SLC Championship series
BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar fended off a Stephen F. Austin squad eager to advance to the Southland Conference Championship series with a 4-2 victory on Saturday night to force Sunday's if-necessary game.
The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but SFA responded in the second with a bases loaded walk to Ethan Peña and an executed squeeze play by Cooper Schneider. Lamar, the visitors on the scoreboard tied the game in the third on an RBI single, took the lead in the fourth and added an insurance run in the ninth.
SFA used four arms in the loss with Seanan Farney throwing 3.0 innings in a starting role, while Kadin Munson worked the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Brennan Greer tossed 2.2 and Gage Elliott recorded the final out. SFA struck out seven with three Ks each from Farney and Greer.
POSTGAME NOTES
The Jacks and Lamar in a winner-take-all contest on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. from Vincent Beck Stadium. The winner advances to the SLC Championship series next weekend to face the (1) Southeastern and (5) McNeese Sunday winner. Live coverage links are available at www.SFAjacks.com.
