‘Jacks Defeat Panthers in Midweek Matchup

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team (24-22) hosted the Prairie View Panthers (20-18) in a Tuesday afternoon matchup.
SFA got on the board in the bottom of the first after Mikaelah Burkland drew a leadoff walk then was bunted over to second by Hope Lusk and scored on a throwing error by the Panthers after Ellie Vance lined out to the third baseman, 1-0. PVAMU responded in the top of the second with a two-run home run, 2-1.
The 'Jacks bats got going in the bottom of the third as Burkland hit a leadoff double, the Lusk hit a single and Vance reached on a fielder's choice to load up the bases. Adelyn Becerra skied one into center field which gave Burkland enough time to score, 2-2. Ella Hill hit a single to left field to juice the bases for Camryn Milley who smoked a pitch back up the middle to drive in two runs, 4-2. Milley and Hill then excuted a beautiful double steal to score the fifth run of the game, 5-2.
The Panthers tied the game back up in the top of the fourth, 5-5. SFA responded with an RBI double from Vance in the bottom of the fourth, 6-5. Sydney Blakeman stepped up to bat with a runner on second and two outs and dropped an RBI single in left field to score the final run of the game, 7-5.

SFA will head to the island to face Texas A&M Corpus Christi in a series this weekend beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, April 19th at 12:00 and 2:30 p.m.
