Lumberjacks Lose Second Game of Series Against UTRGV

EDINBURG, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (9-25, 2-15 SLC) lost the second game of their three-game series against the UTRGV Vaqueros (24-10, 15-5 SLC) this evening, 9-7.

The Lumberjacks started the game on fire. After Cooper Schneider walked and Dalton Mullins singled to lead off the game, Mark Henning grounded out to the pitcher, scoring Schneider. The 'Jacks then strung together four straight singles from Julian Swift, Kevin Duran, Ethan Adkisson, and Cermodrick Bland, scoring three more runs and taking a four-run lead. The Vaqueros quickly responded, however, as they scored four runs themselves to tie the game going into the second inning.

The second went by without any offense, but Ethan Adkisson would come through with a sacrifice fly in the third, scoring Swift who led off the inning with a double. In the bottom of the inning, the Vaqueros tied it up once again, scoring one. After three innings, the game was tied at five.

In the fourth, UTRGV took their first lead of the game, scoring four runs to make the score 9-5 in favor of the Vaqueros. Neither team could score any more until the bottom of the sixth, as UTRGV extended their lead with a solo home run. After six innings of play, the Vaqueros led 9-5.

The score held the same until the top of the ninth when Josh Ibe hit his 12th home run of the year, a two-run shot that also scored Dalton Mullins. Unfortunately for SFA, they couldn't manufacture any more offense and would lose to UTRGV 9-7.

Dylan Mulcahy (1-2) was the losing pitcher, while Harrison Thayer (2-1) was the winner.
