Lumberjacks Fall to Cardinals

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks fell to the Lamar Cardinals in their second of three matchups in the 2024 season.
The Cardinals got the scoring started in the first inning scoring one run. The Lumberjacks pitching was able to hold the Cardinals scoreless until they added six runs in the top of the sixth inning to lead 7-0. The Lumberjacks were able to respond with one run in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the Cardinals lead to six. After six complete innings Lamar lead 7-1. Lamar then scored four more runs in the top of the seventh inning extending their lead again to 11-1.
In the bottom of the seventh inning Tom Biggs came to bat with the bases loaded and drove in Brock Knoerr from third base with a sacrifice fly to center field. The Lumberjacks then tacked on another run thanks to a Cal Martin bases loaded walk scoring Julian Thompson from third base. After seven complete innings Lamar led 11-3. In the bottom of the ninth inning Brock Knoerr singled up the middle to drive in Cal Martin but the Lumberjacks were not able to complete the comeback and lost by a final score of 11-4.
Trhea Morse (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Cardinals and Reid Bowyer (0-1) took the loss for the Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks be back in action this weekend March 8th -10th at Pilgrim's Park to open up conference play against the Grand Canyon Lopes. First pitch is set for 6:30 P.M. CST Friday March 8th.
