NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks dropped the first game of a three-game series to the Grand Canyon Lopes tonight.

The Lopes got the scoring started in the first inning with a solo home run. Grand Canyon then scored three runs in the top of the second and two runs in the top of the third. SFA then responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a Tom Biggs sacrifice fly driving in Colton Griffin.

GCU then scored three-runs in the top of the fourth inning with three runs. Nolan Brown came to the plate with one runner on base and crushed his fifth home run of the year to left field. The Lopes scored two-runs in the top of the fifth inning and two in the top of the seventh. Colton Griffin then cut into the lead with a solo shot over right center field. After seven complete innings GCU led 13-4. The Lopes then tacked on one-run in the top of the ninth inning. The Lopes took game one of the series by a final score of 14-4.

The Lumberjacks will be back in action Saturday March 8th for game two of the series. First pitch is set for 2:00 P.M. CST. The game will not be broadcast but you can follow all the action on social media and with live stats on the SFA athletics website.
