Lumberjacks Crush Seven Home Runs in Win Over Islanders

Five different Lumberjacks hit home runs in the win. Colton Griffin (2), Tom Biggs (2), Cal Martin, Cole Hill and Dylan Bourgeois all had big flies in the game.
The Islanders got the scoring started early in the first inning plating two runs, but the Lumberjacks answered quickly with a two spot of their own in the bottom of the first. Colton Griffin hit his first home run of the season to dead center field plating the first Lumberjack run. Tom Biggs then followed up one batter later with a solo home run of his own to right field.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second inning, but the scoring got started again in the top of the third with Texas A&M Corpus Christi plating three runs. SFA then responded with a pair of their own in the bottom of the third.
The two teams traded blows until the Lumberjacks pulled away in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Islanders took the lead 10-9 again in the top of the seventh but yet again the Lumberjacks responded with seven runs. The Lumberjacks led 16-10 heading to the top of the eighth inning. Trent Nickerson and Preseason Stopper of The Year Nominee Caleb Rutledge combined in the eighth and ninth inning to shut the Islanders out giving the Lumberjacks the win 17-10.
Senior Cade Stapleton (1-0) took the win for the Lumberjacks and Austin Dean (0-1) took the loss for the Islanders.
The Lumberjacks are back in action on Sunday February 18th as they will play a double header. Stephen F. Austin will play Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 11:00 AM CST followed by Central Michigan at 2:00 PM CST. Both games will be streaming live on ESPN+.
