SEATTLE, Wash. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Basketball Team (11-6, 5-1) starts a lengthy road-trip as they begin their four-game road trip with a match against the host Seattle University Redhawks (1-14,1-5) on Thursday evening.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
Stephen F. Austin will look to win their third straight conference game as they are coming into Seattle off solid wins over Utah Tech 76-67, and their most recent win over Southern Utah where the Ladyjacks claimed a 68-53 home win over the Thunderbirds. In their win over Southern Utah, SFA led the Thunderbirds in rebounds (45-34), assists (16-13), blocks (4-2), steals (7-6), field goal percentage (45.0-37.5), three-point percentage (26.3-13.3), free-throw percentage (75.0-27.3), points off turnovers (20-8), second chance points (14-10), fast break points (11-3), and bench points (18-8). The Ladyjacks strong shooting has been on full display during their last two wins as they have shot over 45% from the field in both wins, while shooting at least 75% from the charity stripe during that same stretch and completing the trifecta by scoring at least 30 points in the paint in both home wins.
Kurstyn Harden looks to be unstoppable for SFA right now as she led the Ladyjacks in scoring for a third consecutive game as she dropped her fourth double-double of the season with a 21-point, 10-rebound performance against Southern Utah. Her strong play recently has caught the attention of others outside of SFA as Harden was recently named the WAC Player of the Week for the second time this season. In the two wins over Utah Tech and Southern Utah, Harden combined to score 36 points, while shooting 75% from the field, and 92.3% from the free-throw line, while tacking on 13 rebounds, six assists, one steal, and one block for good measure. Zoe Nelson looks to be just as unstoppable as Harden as she has put together back-to-back double-double performances for SFA, which was recently highlighted by her 10-point, 10-rebound performance against the Thunderbirds. That double-double effort for Nelson marked her fourth of the campaign and has her tied with Harden, Macie Warren of Utah Tech, and Chloe Webb of CBU for the second most double-doubles in the entire WAC for the season. Tyler McCliment-Call and Destini Lombard continue to stuff the stat sheet every game for SFA as McCliment-Call finished the Southern Utah game with eight points, leading the team with a pair of three-pointers, while pulling down five rebounds. Lombard created plenty of scoring for SFA as she dished out a team-leading five assists, while recording two rebounds, four points, and a steal on top of that. Lydia Cooke-Wiggins continues to impress during her freshman season as she recorded eight points, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal against the Thunderbirds.
Kyla Deck and Destini Lombard have been the enforcers for SFA on defense as Lombard currently ranks tied for 41st in the nation with her 40 steals for an average of 2.35 steals/game. Her teammate Kyla Deck has teamed up with her to form a dynamic defensive duo as Deck ranks tied for 46th in the nation with 39 steals, while also ranking tied for 24th in the country by averaging a healthy 2.79 steals/game for SFA. As a team, SFA ranks tied for 33rd in the nation in steals per game as they average 10.7 steals/game, which currently ranks them over schools such as Penn St., University of Texas, and University of Miami (FL).
Redhawks at a Glance:
The Seattle University Redhawks close out a three-game home stand looking to snap a current eight-game losing skid. On the season, Seattle has drawn some tough non-conference opponents as they were pitted against University of Arizona, University of Washington, and San Diego State. In their most recent game, the Redhawks fell at home to conference rival UT Arlington 72-54. Mya Moore led the way offensively for Seattle in the loss as she finished with a team-high 15 points, while pulling down eight rebounds, and recording two steals to also lead the team. Irena Korolenko was the second Redhawk to finish in double-digit for points as she had 11 and recorded four rebounds as well. Makayla Moore fell just short of a double-double for Seattle as she recorded eight points and pulled down a team-leading 10-rebounds, while leading the team in blocks with two.
Mya Moore has been a force to be reckoned with this season for Seattle as she leads the team in a number of major statistical categories. Moore leads the team with her 12.9 points/game, leads the team with 109 rebounds on the year for an average of 7.3 rebounds/game, and has been just as effective defensively as she leads the team in steals with 30, and blocks with 21. Peyton Howard has played selfless basketball all season for Seattle as she leads the team in assists with 56, while recording 25 steals on the season ranking only behind Moore in that category. Aannah Interrante, and Irena Korolenko have formed a dynamic duo from downtown for the Redhawks as each player has made 20 triples on the season to tie for the team lead. Meanwhile, Korolenko and Howard have been workhorses this season as both average over 29 minutes of game-time this season.
Series: This will be the third meeting between these two programs as SFA has claimed the first two match-ups. The Ladyjacks have recorded one home win and one away win during that stretch, while scoring over 75 points in both games, and limiting Seattle to less than 60 points in both. The most recent game saw SFA go on the road and prevail over Seattle with an 86-57 win in the Redhawk center last season.
