Ladyjacks Secure Back-to-Back SLC Tournament Championships; Punch their Ticket to the NCAA Tournament

SFA captures its 18th SLC Tournament Title and their third in the past six years.
LAKE CHARLES, La.- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball program competed in their second straight SLC Championship Game.
This title bout matchup showed early with the defensive play from both teams keeping each offense in check. After the Cowgirls got out to an early 4-2 lead in the first minute of the game, both teams went scoreless for the next two minutes until McNeese completed a three-point play to take a 7-2 lead with 7:08 left in the first. Harmanie Dominguez continued her prolific three-point shooting as she drained SFA's first two threes of the game including a four-point play on her second three to cut the deficit to two, 11-9 with 5:30 left. Both teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter as the Cowgirls went into the first quarter break with a slim, 19-18 lead.
The stellar defensive play continued in the second quarter as neither offense was able to get on the board until 7:53 when Key Roseby broke the scoring drought with a layup, 20-19. Two minutes later, the Ladyjacks went on a 5-0 spurt with a Roseby layup and another Dominguez three, 28-23. McNeese responded with back-to-back baskets to cut the SFA lead to one, 28-27 with 3:35 left in the second quarter. Once again both offenses traded blows to end the quarter. Aziyah Farrier scored a last second layup to give the Ladyjacks a 34-33 lead heading into the locker room.
Coming out of the locker room, Myka Perry put the team on her back scoring SFA's first six points of the third to extend SFA's lead to four, 40-36 with 7:20 left. After a made free throw from McNeese, the Ladyjacks went on an 8-4 run capped off by a Farrier layup, 48-41 with 3:07 left in the third. The Cowgirls responded with a 7-2 run to cut the SFA lead to two at the end of the third quarter, 50-48.
SFA came out on fire in the fourth with a 9-4 run to bring the lead back up to seven at the fourth quarter media timeout, 59-52 with 5:29 left in the game. Coming out of the media timeout, Dominguez drained her fourth three-pointer of the game to give SFA a ten-point lead, 62-52 with 4:28 to go. McNeese went on a 5-0 spurt to cut the lead back down to five, 62-57 with 2:20 left. A three from Ashlyn Traylor-Walker put the Ladyjacks up by eight with 2:07 left. SFA finished the game on a 6-0 run to secure their second straight SLC Tournament Title, 71-59.
After the game the All-Tournament Team was announced. Myka Perry was named MVP with teammates, Harmanie Dominguez and Ashlyn Traylor-Walker joining her on the All-Tournament Team.
POSTGAME NOTES
• SFA secures their second straight SLC Tournament Title; their third in the past six years and their 18th overall Tournament Title.
• The Ladyjacks have won the SLC tournament title the past three years, not including the three years spent in the WAC.
• MVP Myka Perry led the team with 21 points and pulled down six boards.
