
Ladyjacks Survive and Advance to SLC Semifinals

SFA outlasts Nicholls, 63-60 and will play No. 2 seeded Lamar tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
LAKE CHARLES, La.- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball program began their chase for the 2026 Southland Conference Tournament Title against No. 7 seeded Nicholls on Tuesday afternoon.
The Colonels got out to a hot start as they scored the first six points of the game, 6-0. SFA got their first point on the board with a made free throw from Lydia Cajuste, 6-1 with 6:01 left in the first. Both teams traded blows the rest of the quarter and Nicholls went into the first quarter break with a 17-9 lead.
After Nicholls scored the first three points of the second quarter, the Ladyjacks went on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to five, 20-15 with 5:20 left. Two minutes later, SFA went on another 6-0 spurt capped off by a three-point play from Myka Perry, 25-23 with 2:23 left in the first half. Nicholls scored the final four point of the first half on free throws to take a six-point lead into the locker room, 29-23.
SFA's offense exploded in the third quarter as they went on a 9-2 run for the first three and a half minutes of the quarter to take their first lead of the game, 32-31. Nicholls responded with a five-point spurt, 36-32. With 1:27 left, SFA got back-to-back and-one plays from Cha Gardner and Perry to retake the lead. SFA went on a 10-0 run to take a 50-43 lead with 26 second left in the third. Nicholls hit a last second three to cut the SFA lead to four, 50-46.
The Colonels began the fourth on a 7-0 run to retake the lead. Harmanie Dominguez drained her second three-pointer of the game to tie the single season three-point record with 90. Dominguez's three began an 8-0 spurt for SFA to give the Ladyjacks a five-point lead with 2:59 left in the game, 58-53. Both teams traded baskets late as the SFA defense held Nicholls in check to secure a 63-60 victory and advance to the Southland Conference Tournament Semifinals.

• Aziyah Farrier tied Perry for the team lead with 10 rebounds and tied Cha Gardner for the team lead with two blocks.
• Farrier has tied Porsha Roberts freshman block record at 59 and is one away from passing her for the sixth most blocks in a single season and breaking the freshman block record.
