Ladyjacks Fall to Lady Bears in First Four Game of the NCAA Tournament

AUSTIN, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball program went to Austin for their NCAA Tournament matchup against Conference USA Champion, Missouri State Lady Bears.
Both teams struggled to get shots to fall early as the first points of the game came from the Missouri State free throw line with 7:46 left in the first half. After Ashlyn Traylor-Walker scored the first basket for SFA, Missouri State went on a 6-0 spurt to take an 8-2 lead with 5:39 left in the first quarter. A three-point run from Traylor-Walker cut the deficit to two, 10-8. Over the next two minutes the Lady Bears went on a 11-0 run to take a commanding 21-8 lead with 2:04 left. With 1:08 left, the Ladyjacks went on a 13-3 run to finish off the first quarter which included back-to-back threes from Harmanie Dominguez within ten seconds of each other. After a buzzer beater three from Myka Perry cut the Missouri State lead to three, 24-21.
Each team traded blows in the second quarter as neither team held more than a four-point lead until former Ladyjack, Angel Scott drained a three-pointer with 1:55 left in the second quarter to give the Lady Bears a five-point lead, 45-38. Another three from Dominguez with 36 seconds left sent SFA into the locker room at halftime down by four, 47-43.
The back and forth continued in the third until the Lady Bears went on another 11-point run to take a 62-47 lead with 5:40 left in the third. Traylor-Walker put the team on her back as she scored the next seven points for SFA, 64-54 with 3:52 left. Missouri State went into the final quarter break with a 75-61 lead.
In the fourth quarter, each team continued to trade baskets as Missouri State held on to their double-digit lead for most of the fourth quarter to secure an 85-75 victory.
POSTGAME NOTES
• The Ladyjacks fall to 0-3 against Missouri State.
• Ashlyn Traylor-Walker led the team with 23 points and four assists. She also was a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line.
• Aziyah Farrier finished one rebound short of a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. She led the team with nine rebounds and three blocks.
• Farrier finished the season with the fourth most blocks in a single season.
• Myka Perry rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 and led the team with four steals.
• Harmanie Dominguez led the team with three three-pointers and finished the season with 100 three-pointers and is the only Ladyjack to score 100 threes in a single season.
