MIAMI, Florida - The Ladyjack's basketball program continue their non-conference schedule against Bradley and George Mason as they look for two wins in the FIU Holiday Hoops Showdown.
Avery Brittingham Records a Double-Double as SFA Crosses the Century Mark Against Texas Wesleyan
Stephen F. Austin defeated Texas Wesleyan, 101-40 Thursday night. SFA improves to 8-2 in non-conference play. This game is an exhibition for TWU, so they stay at 8-1 overall.
The Ladyjacks started the game on a 10-0 scoring run and never looked back. SFA ended the first half with a 32 point lead, 47-15. TWU came out of the locker room and scored the first four points of the second half, but the Ladyjack offense was too much for the Lady Rams as SFA won the game by 61 points.
SFA lead TWU in points in the paint (48-24), points off of turnovers (31-12), second chance points (23-12), fast break points (26-6), bench points (40-18), field goal percentage (55.2-27.4), three-point percentage (39.3-33.3), and free throw percentage (69.6-50.0). Five Ladyjacks scored double-digit points tonight. Leading the offensive charge was Avery Brittingham who recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Two-time WAC Freshman of the Week, Jordan Harrison scored 15 points, recorded six rebounds and a career-high eight assists. Zoe Nelson followed Brittingham with seven rebounds and scored a career-high 11 points. Destini Lombard finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Tyler McCliment-Call scored three three-pointers for the third game in a row and recorded five rebounds and two assists.
A Look at the Braves
The Bradley Braves head into their first matchup of the tournament with a 3-6 record and a 1-4 record on the road.
Caroline Waite is the lead scorer for the Braves and the one the Ladyjacks need to look for when on defense. Waite averages 13.3 points per game and makes most of her attempts from beyond the arc. The Ladyjacks have to be smart when playing physical around Waite, as she is perfect from the free throw line so far this season (14-14).
Look out for the 6-foot power duo of Isis Fitch and Daija Powell in the paint as they both have a respectable field goal percentage: Fitch-42.9%, Powell-49.3% (leads the team). Fitch also has the best three-point percentage for the Braves making 42.1% from the arc. Powell uses her height to her advantage as she leads the team with 8 blocks and 60 rebounds, Fitch right behind Powell with 55 rebounds.
A Look at the Patriots
The George Mason Patriots come into the tournament with a 6-5 record and a 0-4 record when not playing on their home court. The Patriots are coming off a hot three game win streak.
Taylor Jameson is the sharp shooter for the Patriots as she has made 21 buckets on 68 attempts and averages 14.6 points per game. The Patriots seem to spread the ball around as Jameson is the only player on the team with more than 10 points per game. Jameson also looks to play physical as she also leads the team with 14 steals.
The Patriots love to utilize their 6-foot players as Jazmyn Doster and Nalani Kaysla are the top leaders in field goal percentage and total rebounds. Look for them to be key players in the paint both offensively and defensively as all of their points have come inside the arc.
