Four Ladyjacks Score Double-Digits as SFA Axes Bradley in Miami

MIAMI, Fla.- Stephen F. Austin defeated Bradley University 77-48 in the first game of the FIU Holiday Hoops Showdown, Monday afternoon. SFA improves to 9-2 while Bradley falls to 3-7.
The Ladyjacks struggled in the first quarter committing five turnovers and were unable to get a larger lead than four points before the final minute of the quarter. Destini Lombard scored two three-pointers to start the second quarter and increase their lead to double-digits, 23-12. SFA continued to extend their lead throughout the quarter and ended the first half on a 10-0 scoring run. The Ladyjacks got their lead up to 30 points with four minutes left in the third quarter, but Bradley would not go down without a fight as they ended the quarter on a 5-0 run, 59-35. SFA stuck to their game plan and finished the game with a 29 point lead after Kyla Deck hit a three-pointer.
SFA led Bradley in points in the paint (50-10), points off of turnovers (27-12), fast break points (10-2), bench points (41-8), field goal percentage (48.4-33.3), and free throw percentage (69.2-66.7). Aiyana Johnson led the Ladyjacks with 13 points, followed by three other Ladyjacks who were also in double-digits; Lombard (12), Kurstyn Harden (11), and Kyla Deck (10). While Avery Brittingham did not score double-digits in this game, she made a huge defensive impact as she grabbed eight rebounds and recorded four steals (ties her season high) which led SFA in both categories. Angel Scott recorded five assists (new season high) in this game followed by Brittingham and Johnson with four.
The Ladyjacks will play their second game of the FIU Holiday Hoops Tournament on Tuesday, December 20th at 11 a.m. CT as they face off against George Mason.
