Oklahoma Edges SFA In Exhibition

NORMAN, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team opened the 2008 season Friday with a hard-fought 1-0 exhibition loss at Oklahoma. The Sooners notched a goal less than two minutes into the second half and held off SFA down the stretch to collect the win.
SFA sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Bauder turned in a very respectable showing in her first collegiate start in net. She played the entire first half before giving way to junior Crystin Pactor for the second period. Buader faced 11 shots and turned away five shots on goal, setting a new career-high for saves in 45 minutes of action. Pactor also posted five saves while facing 11 total shots in the second frame.
SFA was efficient at the offensive end of the field, putting two of its four first-half shots on goal, but the teams went to halftime with the score tied at nothing.
Oklahoma broke the tie quickly in the second frame. The Sooners' Kelsey Allison fired a shot on goal early in the 47th minute, but Bauder recorded the save. Oklahoma was on the attack less than a minute later, though, and this time Allison connected, giving her team a 1-0 advantage at the 47-minute mark.
SFA held the Sooners to nine more shots down the stretch, but couldn't convert on either of its two second-half shots, both of which were on goal. For the game, Oklahoma held a 22-6 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
For SFA, Amanda Alders, Edwina Forbes, Brenna Crockett and Brittney Barker each posted a shot on goal.
The Ladyjacks are scheduled to open the regular season on Aug. 22, when they take on TCU on the road. The game against the Horned Frogs is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start from Fort Worth, Texas.
