SFA looks to turn page in September with road matchups against ULM and Texas A&M, including second Power Four opponent of season
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's soccer team is gearing up for a pair of matches to start September, as they hit the road to face off against ULM and Texas A&M. The Jacks currently have a 0-2 road record on the season, with the most recent outing coming during their 2-1 loss at Arkansas State to conclude the month of August.

SCOUTING THE WARHAWKS
ULM enters Thursday's match with a 2-3-1 record on the season. The Warhawks are coming off a 2-0 loss at Ole Miss, where goalkeeper Jen Handy recorded eight saves while allowing two goals. Despite the recent results, ULM's offense has remained productive, scoring 12 goals through six matches, including a five-goal performance against Jackson State, a future opponent for the Ladyjacks. ULM averages 2.00 goals per match and 11.5 shots per game, while SFA has conceded 2.40 goals per match this season.
Sophomore Amy Sharkey leads the Warhawks in both goals and points, recording three goals and six points while starting four of ULM's six matches. Handy and junior defender Beth Strutton lead the team in minutes with 512 minutes of action each, and have been key contributors to the Warhawks' defense, which has allowed three goals on the season.

Texas A&M earned a 5-0 victory over Sam Houston and a 3-0 win against Southland Conference opponent UIW. Before hosting SFA, the Aggies will host No. 19 TCU on Thursday. The matchup with the Ladyjacks marks Texas A&M's final non-conference contest before opening SEC play on September 11 at Kentucky.
Texas A&M enters its first season in 33 years without Coach Guerrieri at the helm following his recent retirement. Former Florida State assistant, two-time national champion and MLS veteran Bobby Shuttleworth now lead the Aggies. After making the move from Tallahassee, Shuttleworth leads Texas A&M into the 2026 campaign as the only program in the Lone Star State to reach the 500-win mark.
Like the Warhawks, the Aggies have netted 12 goals through five matches while averaging 19.2 shots per game, which currently ranks 19th in the nation. Texas A&M has registered 96 shots this season, including 41 on goal, while ranking among the nation's top scoring teams. Trinity Buchanan and Ireland Churchill lead the Aggies with double-digit point totals, combining for nine goals and three assists on the season. Shuttleworth has turned to Makenna August in goal for all five matches, with the goalkeeper playing 450 minutes while allowing seven goals and recording 25 saves.

The Ladyjacks' closest margin of defeat came in 1-0 losses at Texas A&M in both the 2012 and 2014 seasons, with the Aggies ranked No. 9 nationally in 2014.

No matter the season, the community has shown great support, and it is just one of the many reasons I am happy to be here."

SFA dropped a 3-1 match against LA Tech on Sunday, August 30. Alyce Chappelle scored her second goal of the new campaign, led by a Sawyer Kohutek throw-in to Chappelle in the Ladyjacks' attacking third. Brandie Musser and Sydney Robinett each played for 45 minutes, recording five saves in total.
