2/7/2026 2:08:00 PM | Softball
SFA begins the 2026 campaign 4-0 for the first time since 2020.
COMMERCE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team faced off against Texas Southern and Bucknell in their day two doubleheader.
Game 1: SFA 4, Texas Southern 3
Texas Southern got on the board early as an RBI double got the first run across home plate for the Tigers. SFA responded quickly in the bottom of the second after a walk from Malia Jones and a single from Kara Pride put two runners on with Ellie Vance up to the plate. Jones and Pride executed a perfect double steal to bring in the Jacks first run of the game. Vance followed with an RBI single up the middle, then Morgan Wright also recorded an RBI single to give SFA a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, freshman Kara Pride knocked her first collegiate home run out of the ballpark to give SFA a 4-1 lead. Texas Southern would not go away quietly as they scored three runs in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to one, 4-3. In the top of the sixth inning, Jordyn Ages and Amelia Hatthorn kept the TSU bats in check as the Tigers were unable to scratch the tying run across. Hatthorn continued her dominance in the seventh and secured a 4-3 win on a swinging strikeout. Reagan Hall picks up her first win of the season in the circle.
Game 2: SFA 8, Bucknell 0
SFA looked to capitalize on last night's incredible performance from Crimson Bryant in the circle against Bucknell. After two scoreless innings, the Jacks got on the board in the top of the third with an explosive eight-run inning. Jamie Varga began the scoring with a two-RBI single, followed by another RBI single from Vance, 3-0. After Wright walked and then Vance and Wright advanced on a wild pitch, Lilly Bean hit a sac fly to center to bring in Vance, 4-0. Pride followed Bean's example with a sac fly to score Wright, 5-0. A single from Mallory Dwyer and a walk from Jones put two on base for Ella Hill. Hill came out swinging for the fences, and she did just that with a three-run home run to straightaway centerfield to give SFA a dominant 8-0 lead.
Crimson Bryant continued her dominance in the circle by only allowing one hit in the next two innings on her way to her second win of the season while pitching a 5.0 complete game, allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out five batters. Bryant records her second straight one-hitter performance and picks up her second win of the season.
