NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Softball team (23-22, 12-9 SLC) return home to host the Prairie View A&M Panthers (20-17, 14-3 SWAC) in a midweek matchup at SFA Softball Field.
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks return home to Nacogdoches looking to get back in the win column following a weekend series in Hammond. The Lumberjacks were faced with a tough task this past weekend as they drew a series against the leaders of the Southland Conference in the Southeastern Louisiana University Lady Lions. The Lumberjack offense continues to have a knack for finding extra bases with a pair of doubles, a triple, and two home runs over the weekend and have now recorded at least one extra-base hit in six of their last seven games. SFA now returns home seeking to build off their 9-5 home record and looking to return to the offensive form they showed in their last home series against the East Texas A&M Lions where the 'Jacks scored 23 runs over the series.
Panthers at a Glance:
The Prairie View A&M Panthers continue their eight-game road trip in Nacogdoches on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers traveled to Pine Bluff, Arkansas this past weekend and exploded on offense as they 32 runs over a three-game series with the Golden Lions, scored double-digit runs in two games, and recorded a clean sweep of UAPB. The Panthers will now carry their three-game win streak into the Piney Woods looking to build on their 9-7 road record this season.
Scouting Report-Lumberjacks:
Mikaelah Burkland continues to round into mid-season form as she as now hit safely in her last five contests, recording three multi-hit efforts during this stretch, while tying for the team lead in doubles with seven on the year. Ellie Vance recorded back-to-back multi-hit efforts over the final two games of the series against the Lady Lions. Meanwhile, Hope Lusk showcased the pop in her bat this weekend in Hammond as she hit a pair of home runs with three RBIs in the series opener against the Lady Lions, while drawing a pair of walks in the last two games of the series, as she is now tied for the team lead in RBIs at 27 with Kyi'Marri Ester.
Scouting Report-Panthers:
Janaiya Thomas has been a do-it-all hitter for the Panthers as she leads the team in extra-base hits with 14, while driving in a team-high 34 RBIs this season. Kearstin Tinsley leads the Panthers in batting average with a .348 mark this season, while being a blur on the base paths as she has 28 stolen bases. Hailey Elizarraras leads the pitching staff with her 3.76 ERA.
Series:
Tuesday afternoon's midweek will see these two Texas foes meet for the 17th time, with SFA holding a perfect 16-0 record over the Panthers. These two schools met earlier this season in March with SFA claiming a 9-2 road victory over the Panthers.
On Deck:
The Lumberjacks head back on the road as they travel to Corpus Christi for a three-game weekend series against the Islanders. The series kicks off on Friday with a doubleheader before finishing on Saturday afternoon.
