Cody Templeton Throws Complete Game Shutout as 'Jacks Take Game One Against Lamar
3/7/2025 9:20:00 PM | Baseball
BEAUMONT, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (7-7, 2-2) defeated the Lamar Cardinals (10-5, 0-4) 2-0 tonight as Cody Templeton threw a complete game shutout.
The story of the night was Cody Templeton; the Junior left-hander dazzled against the Cardinals. Templeton was dominant, throwing nine innings and only giving up five hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck out seven.
This game was a pitcher's duel as Lamar starter Riely Hunsaker also pitched well. The first three innings went quickly, and both guys kept the bats quiet. In the fourth inning, Josh Ibe would lead off with a single. Mark Henning would then bring him home with his second triple in as many games. Henning would score later in the inning courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Julian Swift, giving the Lumberjacks a 2-0 lead.
Templeton would continue to dominate, keeping the Cardinals' bats off balance all night. He retired the side in order in the third, fifth, and sixth innings.
The bats would continue to be quiet for both sides until the eighth when Ben Hoskizaki would lead off the inning with a single and then steal second. Unfortunately, the Lumberjacks were unable to bring him around to score. This ultimately didn't matter as Templeton was not going to allow any Lamar comeback. Despite a hit-by-pitch with two outs, he'd finish what he started, keeping the Cardinals scoreless on Friday night.
Cody Templeton's efforts earned him his second win of the year (2-0), while Riely Hunsaker (1-2) took the loss.
