NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (5-7, 1-2) host the Huston-Tillotson Rams (7-14, 2-4) for a midweek game at Pilgrim's Park on Wednesday afternoon.
A Look at the Lumberjacks
The Lumberjacks are coming off a series loss against New Orleans to open up conference play. Last weekend, the 'Jacks lost a close game one, 3-2, but responded in a big way on Saturday in game two, run-ruling the Privateers. In the rubber game on Sunday, they lost another close one, 3-2, to drop the series. Josh Ibe had another great weekend against New Orleans, batting .500 with a 1.783 OPS. He also hit his third homer on the year while driving in five runs. On the season, Ibe is leading the team in batting average (.462), OPS (1.615), slugging percentage (.1.000), on-base percentage (.615), home runs (3), and RBI (15). His slugging percentage is leading the conference and eighth in the nation, while his on-base percentage is first in the SLC and tenth nationally. Dante Turgeon also had a great weekend against New Orleans, hitting .400 with a 2.225 OPS. He also slugged his first two home runs while driving in five runs. On the year, Dante is hitting .318 with a 1.126 OPS, which ranks second on the team. His .682 slugging percentage also ranks second to Ibe for the team lead. River Curs and Julian Swift have also been great for the Lumberjacks this year. Curs is second on the team with a .419 batting average and .538 on-base percentage, while Swift is tied for first with 13 hits and second among the 'Jacks with 10 RBI.
On the pitching side for SFA, Cody Templeton and Dylan Mulcahy had stellar outings once again for the Lumberjacks. Templeton pitched a season-high 7.1 innings, giving up two earned runs while striking out six batters. His season ERA is down to 2.21, and he leads the team in innings pitched (20.1) and strikeouts (19). Dylan Mulcahy also pitched well, throwing five innings while giving up two earned runs with five strikeouts. His season ERA of 1.93 leads all starters for the 'Jacks and is second on the team overall. He also leads the team in opponent batting average (.128) while striking out 16 batters, second to Templeton. Reliever Jack James leads the team with a 1.80 ERA over five innings pitched. Reid Boyett has also been reliable out of the pen, throwing 12.2 innings at a 2.84 ERA.
A Look at the Rams
Huston-Tillotson is coming off a win over Southwest, as they won a shoot-out, 20-10, on Saturday. Before that win, they had lost six in a row. After they play the 'Jacks, the Rams will travel back home to Austin to host Texas College for a two-game series. The Rams are led by a high-powered offense, as they have five guys hitting over .300. Senior Gary Wafford leads the team in batting average (.463), OPS (1.343), slugging percentage (.778), on-base percentage (.565), and is tied for the team lead in home runs (3). Junior Noah Alvarez also had three long balls on the year while sporting a 1.238 OPS, second on the team to Wafford. He leads the team with 20 RBI and 27 hits.
On the mound, the Rams are led by junior Steel Kupec, as he is first on the team with a 3.74 ERA and .250 batting average against. Sophomore Ethan Walker is scheduled to throw against the Lumberjacks on Wednesday. He leads the team with 27.1 innings pitched and 23 strikeouts while sporting a 7.57 ERA.
