The 'Jacks started this one out with a bang, as they sent 14 guys to the plate in the first inning. Josh Ibe, Ethan Adkisson, Kevin Duran, Dante Turgeon, Dylan Hummel, and Mark Henning all had RBI base hits as the Lumberjacks scored nine runs in the top of the first. It was the most runs they've scored in one inning all season. ACU would score one of their own in the bottom of the inning as the 'Jacks held a 9-1 lead going into the second.
In the third, Josh Ibe would tack on another run with his first home run of the game, a solo shot to left field to put SFA up 10-1. In the bottom of the frame, ACU would fight back with a grand slam from Diego Cardenas to cut the lead to 10-4.
In the top of the fourth, Dante Turgeon would get in on the act, smoking a solo home run to center field to put SFA up 11-4. ACU would score three more in the bottom of the inning, making the score 11-7 in favor of SFA.
Fireworks once again went off for the 'Jacks in the top of the fifth, as Ibe and Mark Henning would hit back-to-back solo shots to extend SFA's lead to 13-7. In the sixth, Kevin Duran connected on his first home run of the season to put SFA up by seven, 14-7.
Reliever Jack James did a good job of slowing down the Wildcat bats in the fifth and sixth as he kept ACU off the board. In the seventh, Josh Ibe would set an SFA record with his third home run of the night, a solo shot to make the score 15-7.
ACU would score one run in the bottom of the seventh and four more in the bottom of the eighth to cut the 'Jacks lead to 15-13, but Elian Balmaceda did a great job out of the pen, sitting down all four Wildcat hitters he faced. SFA would go on to win the shootout, 15-13.
Jack James (1-0) won his first game of the year, while Iain Campa (0-1) took the loss. Elian Balmaceda picked up his first save for the Lumberjacks this year.
Josh Ibe's three home runs tonight were the most in one game in SFA history. The Junior first baseman/designated hitter is up to eight home runs this year.
