STEPHENVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (8-13, 2-7) hit the road to take on the Tarleton State Texas (9-13, 0-0) in a three-game non-conference weekend series.
A Look at the Lumberjacks
The SFA Lumberjacks come into this series at 8-13 overall and 2-7 in the SLC. They snapped their six-game losing streak on Wednesday in a shootout against the Abilene Christian Wildcats, 15-13. Last weekend, the 'Jacks were swept at home by Southeastern Louisiana.
The Lumberjacks offense is led by Josh Ibe, who had the best game of any Lumberjacks at the plate this year against ACU on Wednesday. The Junior first baseman/DH went four for five with three home runs, four RBIs, four runs, and a walk. The three home runs set an SFA record for most home runs in a single game. Ibe continues to lead the team in most offensive categories. He's first in batting average (.367), OPS (1.370), slugging percentage (.883), on-base percentage (.487), home runs (8), RBI (23), runs (22), hits (22), and total bases (53). Josh is leading the SLC in slugging percentage, and he's third in home runs, sixth in RBIs, and sixth in total bases. Junior first baseman Mark Henning also had a great day against ACU, going four for four with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. On the year, Mark is third on the team in batting average (.304), OPS (.973), hits (17), RBIs (13), and home runs (2). Henning is also second on the 'Jacks with 28 total bases and a .473 on-base percentage. Dante Turgeon has also been productive this year for the Lumberjacks. He also had a great game against the Wildcats, going three for four with a home run, two runs, one RBI, and one run. On the year, Dante is second to Ibe in batting average (.311), OPS (1.036), home runs (3), and slugging percentage (.600) while ranking third on the team in on-base percentage (.436) and total bases (27). Cooper Schneider has quietly had a great year, hitting .360 with a .807 OPS. Although he does not meet the 75% of games played threshold to qualify for the team leaders, his batting average would rank second to Ibe on the team. As a team, the Lumberjacks are hitting .260 with a .765 OPS.
The Lumberjacks pitching staff is headlined by ace Cody Templeton. Despite having arguably his worst outing of the season on Friday against SLU, Cody still threw five innings, only allowing four earned runs while striking out four. On the year, Templeton is fifth in the conference with a 2.36 ERA and 30 strikeouts and third in WHIP (0.93). He's also second in the SLC with a 6.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio while leading the conference in walks allowed per nine innings (1.31). Templeton is slated to pitch Friday. Hayden Tronson will also be toeing the mound for the Lumberjacks this weekend. He's third on the Lumberjacks with 17 innings pitched and carries a 7.94 ERA into the game. Reliever Jack James has been steady out of the pen for SFA, ranking second on the team with a 3.86 ERA in 11.2 innings.
