2/28/2025 8:31:00 PM | Baseball
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks lost their Southland Conference opener to the New Orleans Privateers tonight, 3-2.
The game was a pitcher's duel, as 'Jacks starter Cody Templeton and Privateers pitcher Grant Edwards didn't allow a run through the first two innings.
In the top of the third, Collin Loupe was able to break the scoreless tie with a solo home run to left, putting New Orleans up 1-0. The Lumberjacks would quickly respond, as Julian Swift would lead off the inning with a double off the left-field wall. Owen Hooper would follow Swift with a single to right, putting runners at first and third with no outs. One batter later, Swift would score on a Cermodrick Bland groundout, tying the game at one.
In the bottom of the fourth, Josh Ibe would lead off the inning with a double down the right-field line. One batter later, Dalton Mullins would bring him home with a single up the middle, giving the Lumberjacks a 2-1 lead.
Neither team could score the next three innings, as Cody Templeton continued to keep the Privateers' bats cold.
In the top of the eighth inning, New Orleans would tie it up thanks to an RBI double by Jahlani Rogers. Templeton would end the night with 7.1 innings pitched, two earned runs, and four hits allowed with six strikeouts.
After a scoreless bottom of the eighth for SFA, the Privateers would regain the lead, scoring one to take a 3-2 lead.
Unfortunately, the Lumberjacks were unable to score in the bottom of the ninth and fell to the Privateers 3-2.
