
‘Jacks Fall Just Short to Lopes in Game Two

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks fell just short to the Grand Canyon Lopes in game two of a three-game conference series.
The second game of the series was a pitching duel through the first three innings of the game. Both teams were held scoreless until GCU was able to break the tie with a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning. The Lopes then extended their lead scoring one run in the top of the seventh inning to lead 4-0. The Lumberjacks were then able to push one-run across in the bottom of the seventh inning as Hunter Prescher singled up the middle driving in Nolan Brown. After seven complete innings the Lopes led 4-1.
In the top of the eighth inning GCU extended their lead yet again scoring one run. The Lumberjacks were held scoreless in the bottom of the inning and after eight complete innings GCU led 5-1. After holding the Lopes scoreless in the top of the ninth inning the 'Jacks came to the plate with one final chance to tie or win the game. Nolan Brown led off the bottom of the ninth inning and crushed his sixth home run of the year over the left field wall to cut into the GCU lead. Two batters later Peyton Parker stepped to the plate and followed Brown's lead hitting his first home run of the season over the left center wall. With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning GCU led 5-3. SFA added one more hit in the inning but was unable to complete the comeback and fell by a final score of 5-3.
