SFA Falls to GCU in Final Game of Series

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks lost to the Grand Canyon Lopes in the final game of a three-game conference series by a final score of 10-1.
Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when GCU hit a two run home run to strike first. The Lopes then tacked on three runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 5-0. The Lumberjacks were able to respond in the bottom of the fifth as Tyree Carr cut into the Lopes lead with a sacrifice fly to center field driving in Cody Fleischer to score. After five complete innings GCU led 5-1.
GCU then added one run in the top of the seventh inning and four runs in the top of the ninth inning. SFA was not able to push anymore runs across after their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Lopes completed the series sweep against the Lumberjacks with a 10-1 win.
Connor Mattison (2-1) took the win on the mound for GCU and Elian Balmaceda (1-2) took the loss for SFA.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action on Tuesday March 12th as they travel to Waco, Texas to play the Baylor Bears in a midweek matchup. You can watch the game on ESPN+ and keep up with all the action on social media and with live stats on the SFA athletics website.
