Lumberjacks and Cardinals Meet in Midweek Matchup

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks will play host to the Lamar Cardinals on Wednesday, March 6th. First pitch is set for 6:30 P.M at Pilgrim's Park.
The Matchup
Wednesday's game will be the 105th meeting between the two teams. The overall series is currently led by Lamar with an overall record of 76-28 against the Lumberjacks. This will be the second of three games between the two teams scheduled for the 2024 season. SFA lost the first meeting of the year to Lamar by a final score of 5-0 at the Sugar Land Classic in Sugar Land, Texas.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks are returning to Pilgrim's Park coming off a tough weekend series against the UC San Diego Tritons in San Diego, California. The Lumberjacks lost all four games of the series to the Tritons. SFA is looking for a big midweek win over Lamar to gain momentum heading into the first conference series of the year against Grand Canyon University. During the four-game road-trip the Lumberjacks added two home runs bringing their team total to 16 for the season. Reid Boyett tied his career high in innings pitched with his seven complete innings in game two of the series. The pitching staff also racked up 29 total strikeouts on the weekend bringing their total to 116 strikeouts on the year.
Freshman Colton Griffin is currently tied for second in all of Division I in stolen bases with 12. Nolan Brown currently leads the 'Jacks offense with his .350 batting average and four home runs. After the weekend showing Reid Boyett leads the pitching staff with 18 innings pitched and is tied with Elian Balmaceda for the team lead in strikeouts (16).

The Cardinals currently are 7-4 overall and are coming off a successful weekend series against UT Arlington winning two out of three games. The Lamar offense is currently led by River Orsak with his .359 batting average and is tied for the team lead in home runs with three. The pitching staff is led by Brooks Caple. Caple boasts a 2.20 ERA with 16.1 innings pitched and 22 strikeouts on the year.
