Lumberjacks Drop First of Two Midweek Games to Chippewas

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks lost the first of two midweek games to the Central Michigan Chippewas by a final score of 11-3.

The Lumberjacks got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning as Peyton Parker scored thanks to a Julian Thompson single. Carter Hines got the start on the mound for the 'Jacks and held the Chippewas scoreless until the top of the third inning as Central Michigan was able to push across one run.

Stephen F. Austin was able to respond in the bottom of the third inning as Cole Hill singled up the middle to drive in Colton Griffin giving the Lumberjacks a 2-1 lead. Stephen F. Austin then scored again in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a single from Tom Biggs which drove in Cole Hill and extended the Lumberjacks lead to 3-1.

After allowing one run in the top of the third inning the Lumberjack pitching staff was able to hold the Chippewas scoreless until the top of the ninth when Central Michigan scored 10 runs to take a commanding 11-3 lead. Stephen F. Austin wasn't able to respond in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Bryce Hellgeth (1-0) took the win on the mound for Central Michigan and Caleb Rutledge (0-1) took the loss for the Lumberjacks.

Stephen F. Austin will be back in action on Wednesday the 21st for the final game against Central Michigan. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and first pitch is set for 3:00 P.M. CST.
