Ladyjacks at a Glance:
As Stephen F. Austin will turn the page over into a new month, they will look to carry over their success from January into February when they get set for a road date with the Utah Valley Wolverines. In the month of January, the Ladyjacks carried a 5-2 record and scored 60 or more points in six of the seven games, while going a perfect 3-0 at the Sawmill. The highlight of the month saw the 'Jacks snap GCU's eight-game win streak, and hand the Lopes their first conference loss of the season. However, SFA will look to leave their most recent loss to the CBU Lancers in the month of January and continue the overall success they've experienced in conference play this season as they look ahead to February. The Ladyjacks will enter Thursdays match with a 13-7 overall record, a 7-2 conference record, and a 5-4 away record.
The Ladyjacks got production from almost their entire team as 10 different Ladyjacks scored points against the Lancers, and nine different Ladyjacks pulled down at least two rebounds. Kyla Deck led the way in scoring and from downtown for the 'Jacks as she had a team-high 14 points and drained a team-leading three shots from beyond the arc. Deck made sure her presence was felt even further than her scoring, as she dished out a team-high four assists and recorded four steals to lead all Ladyjacks. Trinity Moore was efficient and effective shooting for SFA as she shot 50% from the field in route to a 12-point performance, where she also pulled down five rebounds and blocked a team-high two shots. Kurstyn Harden continues to be nearly automatic from the free-throw line as she currently leads the WAC with an 84.3% free-throw percentage and has made a WAC-leading 102 free-throws on the season. Harden continued her strong free-throw shooting as she went a perfect 8/8 from the charity stripe against the Lancers, finishing with 12 points and added in four rebounds and one assist. Harden's day was highlighted by her 12 points as she surpassed the 1,000-career point mark with her scoring effort. Three different Ladyjacks tied for the team lead in rebounds as Tyler McCliment-Call, Zoe Nelson, and Destini Lombard all pulled down six rebounds, while also combining for 18 points, six assists, and four steals to form a well-rounded trio against the Lancers.
SFA experienced a strong overall day of free-throw shooting against CBU as they made 23 free-throws as a team and shot just under 77% from the line as a team, while seven different players made at least one free-throw, which helped them record their second highest total for free-throws this season. Meanwhile, nine different Ladyjacks recorded at least one basket against CBU, and five different players made at least one triple as they recorded 31 bench points. The Ladyjack defense recorded their third straight game with 12 steals and made sure to take advantage of their opportunities as they turned those 12 steals and three blocks into 22 points off turnovers.
Kyla Deck continues to be a dominating factor on defense for the Ladyjacks as she currently ranks 28th in the nation with her 51 steals and ranks 15th in the nation in steals per game with her healthy 3.00 steals/game average. Deck also leads the WAC in steals and her steals per game average to flash her defensive dominance.
