
Softball Splits Doubleheader in Abilene

Game 1
The offenses were firing on all cylinders today and it all started with a two-run home run from Gaby Garcia to put the 'Jacks up 2-0. ACU then scored two in the first and three in the second to take a 5-2 lead. SFA scored two more runs in the third off of a double from Kelby Robbins and a single from Raegyn Parrish to cut the lead down to one, 5-4. The Wildcats scored seven runs in the third to extend their lead to 12-4. Mackenzie Bennett smashed a grand slam to left center to make it a 12-8 game. ACU tacked on another run in the fourth inning, 13-8. Camryn Middlebrook hit a sac fly in the fifth to make it 13-9. In the seventh, Sydney Carithers hit a solo shot to left field, 13-10.
Bennett went 3-4 from the plate with four RBIs. Garcia and Carithers joined Bennett as the other two Lumberjacks that hit home runs in Game 1. Alexis Telford recorded the loss after pitching one inning, allowing four hits and four earned runs. Sophie Hannabas came in and pitched 1.1 innings and allowed four hits and six earned runs. Corie Byrd finished the game as she pitched the final 3.2 innings, she allowed five hits, two earned runs and struck out three batters.
Game 2
In Game 2 the Lumberjack bats did not slow down. After the first two innings went scoreless, the 'Jacks broke the game wide open in the third. SFA got the bases loaded after a single, a fielding error, and a walk. Bennett then stepped up to the plate and was able to reach bases on a fielding error which scored the first two runs of the game, 2-0. Lexi Benson then walked the bases loaded again, then Robbins stepped up to bat. Robbins smoked a single down the left field line which doubled the 'Jacks lead, 4-0. Parrish hit a single to load the bases for the third time. Carithers hit SFA's third single in a row to score the fifth run, 5-0. Mallory Webb then walked in the final run of the third, 6-0. In the fourth, Robbins stepped into the box with runners on first and second, and hit a single through the left side, 7-0. Parrish then blasted a three-run home run to left center to extend the SFA lead to 10 runs. With the run rule in place, the 'Jacks won 10-0 after five innings.
Robbins and Parrish each recorded two hits and three RBIs. Benson and Webb each hit a double, and Parrish was the only Lumberjack to hit a home run in the second game. Brooke Gainous pitched her 10th complete game of the season. She allowed three hits and no runs on 61 pitches.
