
Gaby Garcia Hits Two Home Runs as 'Jacks Shutout Lancers in Game One

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated California Baptist 6-0 Friday night. SFA improves to 12-11 (1-0 WAC) while CBU falls to 16-11 (0-1 WAC).
Gaby Garcia got the scoring started for the Lumberjacks in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run to center field, 1-0. Sydney Carithers hit a double to left center to begin the third inning, then Sydnee Hebert stepped up to the plate with two outs and drew a walk to put two runners on for Mackenzie Bennett to do some damage. Bennett smoked a double to left field which scored Carithers to double the 'Jacks lead, 2-0. SFA had an explosive fifth inning that started with a double from Camryn Middlebrook followed by a single from Madison Nguyen. Hebert walked for her second time to load the bases for Bennett once again. This time Bennett hit a sacrifice fly to center field which allowed Middlebrook to score, 3-0. Garcia stepped into the batter's box with runners on the corners and blasted another home run over the left field wall to extend the 'Jacks lead to six.
Garcia and Middlebrook tied for the lead with two hits. Garcia also led the team with four RBIs, followed by Bennett who accounted for two RBIs. Middlebrook also stole two bases in today's game, followed by Nguyen and Lexi Benson who each stole one. Brooke Gainous pitched her second consecutive complete game, this time she struck out three batters and only allowed five hits.
SFA will finish their first conference series Saturday March 18th with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
