NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks began Senior Weekend on the best note possible Friday night, defeating the Northwestern State Demons at Jaycees Field, 8-3. The 'Jacks improve to 17-27, 13-18 in SLC play in the midst of its final conference home series of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Garrett Goetz led the way for the 'Jacks with a team-high two RBI, contributing one double in the first inning to give the home team an early 1-0 lead, followed up by one triple in the sixth to give the 'Jacks a 4-3 boost after the game was knotted up at 3-3 after four complete.

Two more Lumberjacks connected on two hits tonight, with Jacob Evangelista's most notable hit taking place in second inning as he doubled down the right field line to tack on another tally to give the 'Jacks a 2-0 lead. Cameron Crawford gave his team two base hits on the night.

The 'Jacks were able to jump out to a 3-0 cushion after two frames, soon matched by the Demons capitalizing on two wild pitches plus a runner advancing on the throw for a trio of runs in the fourth. SFA never trailed in this ballgame, though, tacking on two runs in both the seventh and eighth to capture an 8-3 advantage.

In the seventh, Evangelista found home on a passed ball with Crawford taking advantage of an error on the NSU shortstop. Kyle Cullen and Sean Moore logged HBP RBI's in the eighth to cushion the lead in the final stages of the contest.

Both squads will dual in a doubleheader tomorrow with Game 1 (7 inn.) slated for 1:00 p.m., followed by Game 2 (9 inn.) at 4:30 p.m.
