
SFA Gets 23 Bench Points in 58-37 Victory Against Central Arkansas

CONWAY, AR -- The SFA women's basketball team got a 23-point showing from the bench on the way to a 58-37 win against the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears on the road Wednesday. The victory improved SFA's overall record to 20-4 and conference record to 13-2.
The Ladyjacks had three players score in double figures, led by Aiyana Johnson, who put together a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Alyssa Mayfield tacked on 11 points from the bench and Stephanie Visscher chipped in as well with 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The SFA defense was a problem in Wednesday's game, forcing 17 Central Arkansas turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 12 points on the other end of the floor. Visscher's three steals led the way individually for the Ladyjacks.

GAME SUMMARY
After jumping out to a 4-3 advantage, SFA went on a 5-0 run with 2:28 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Visscher, to increase its lead to 9-3. The Ladyjacks then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 13-6 advantage. SFA relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 13 points.
SFA kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 12-0 run starting at the 9:52 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Mayfield, to increase its lead to 25-6. The Ladyjacks kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 31-12 advantage heading into halftime. SFA was strong from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 18 points.
SFA continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Johnson, to expand its lead further to 37-18 with 3:42 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Sugar Bears had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Ladyjacks still entered the fourth quarter with a 40-22 edge. SFA played well near the basket, scoring six of its nine points in the paint.
SFA kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by BriAnna Mitchell's three, to grow the lead to 56-35 with 1:53 to go in the contest. The Ladyjacks held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 58-37 win. SFA took advantage of four Central Arkansas turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
