
Big Games From Johnson, Visscher, and Mayfield Not Enough for SFA in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Aiyana Johnson, Stephanie Visscher, and Alyssa Mayfield combined to score 39 of SFA's 52 total points, but the Ladyjacks fell to the Incarnate Word Cardinals 60-52 on the road Saturday. SFA's overall record fell to 20-5 and conference record dropped to 13-3 after the defeat.
The Ladyjacks had two players score in double figures, led by Johnson, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Visscher tacked on 12 points and Mayfield added eight points.
Led by Johnson's four offensive rebounds, SFA did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in four second chance points.
The SFA defense held Incarnate Word shooters to just 36.4% from the field.

GAME SUMMARY
After playing to a 4-4 tie early in the game, SFA went on a 5-0 run with 5:24 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Visscher, to take a 9-4 lead. Incarnate Word then responded to tie things up at 12-12 heading into the second quarter. SFA did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring eight of its 12 points close to the basket.
Incarnate Word then took a 14-12 lead before SFA responding by going on a 6-0 run to take an 18-14 lead. The Cardinals cut into that lead, but the Ladyjacks still enjoyed a 23-22 advantage heading into halftime. SFA was strong from deep in the period, knocking down two three-point shots to account for six of its 11 points.
SFA then lost its advantage in the third quarter and trailed the Cardinals 41-32 entering the fourth. SFA played well near the basket, scoring six of its nine points in the paint.
Incarnate Word kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 46-35 advantage before SFA went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 46-42 with 5:20 to go in the contest. Incarnate Word responded and outscored the Ladyjacks the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 60-52. SFA took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 20 points in the paint.
