12/5/2020 4:22:00 PM | Women's Basketball
NACOGDOCHES, Texas --
To start things out, Zya Nugent got it going for the Ladyjacks using her court vision to find Alyssa Mayfield wide open cutting on the backside, followed by a quick UT-Dallas shot clock violation on the other end. Visscher then finds Marissa Banfield for the one-extra-pass 3 for the first five points of the game.
SFA puts a light full-court pressure on UT-Dallas, but the Comets convert by answering with a 3-pointer to make it 5-5. Visscher responds with a make beyond the arc of her own, and yet another trey off an out of bounds pass from Banfield. After five 3-pointers in the 1st quarter, UT-Dallas calls a timeout trailing 17-7. SFA ends up pushing the lead to 11, ending the 1st quarter up 23-12.
At 2:28 left in the 2nd quarter, the game was pushed to 21 points (40-19) with a Mayfield layup (and one) on the fast break, and the lead extended to 24 for a 43-21 advantage heading into halftime for the Ladyjacks. Visscher had 15 points at the break (6-9 FG, 3-6 3PT.), followed by seven points apiece from Aiyana Johnson and Mayfield. Only four turnovers were committed in the 1st half.
The game was in SFA's hands the remainder of the outing. The Ladyjacks pulled away 78-30 going into the 4th quarter, consistently generating offense throughout the half. SFA finished with 12 3-pointers on the night, including 35 points off the bench to boost Coach Kellogg's squad over UT-Dallas 96-37.
Stephanie Visscher was named Player of the Game, with Alyssa Mayfield and Zya Nugent scoring 14 points, and Avery Brittingham with 11 points. The team finished with 25 assisted baskets, 38 points off of turnovers, and 12 3-pointers.
The Ladyjacks improve to 4-1 on the season. Be sure to check out sfajacks.com for results and a complete schedule for all SFA Athletics.
