Ladyjacks Outpace UT-Arlington 79-57 in Midweek Matchup

NACOGDOCHES, Texas --
SFA notched their fifth win of the season moving to 5-1 on the year with a 22-point win over UT-Arlington Tuesday night. The Ladyjacks were led by Pilgrim's Player of the Game Zya Nugent finishing with 16 points, five rebounds and three steals. Three other Ladyjacks scored in double figures, including Stephanie Visscher (14 points, four rebounds, three assists), Alyssa Mayfield (14 points, three rebounds) and Marissa Banfield (11 points, four assists).
FIRST QUARTER (SFA led, 20-11):
Alyssa Mayfield was able to get her team in gear early and scored five points (SFA 5-0), and a pair of UT-Arlington offensive fouls and turnovers quickly boosted SFA's 10-2 run in first 4:18 of the 1st quarter. With a minute left to play in the quarter, UT-Arlington put the ballgame back to 15-11, but Stephanie Visscher hit a triple making 18-11. SFA had the ball for the final possession of the quarter with the shot clock turned off, and ended up closing out the quarter with a pull-up jumper from BriAnna Mitchell to make it 20-11, SFA.
SECOND QUARTER (SFA led, 37-26):
Aaliyah Johnson nailed a corner 3-pointer at the start of the 2nd quarter, and pushed the SFA lead to 23-12. UT-Arlington came out with full-court pressure following Johnson's make, and Nugent hit an open 3-pointer (SFA, 26-15). The next possession down the floor, Avery Brittingham found Mayfield downlow, and the lead advanced to 28-15. Visscher caught the ball on the wing during the same series of possessions, drove to her left for a bucket at the rim, and made it 30-21 Ladyjacks at the 3:52 media timeout. A Visscher layup out of the timeout once again gave SFA a double-digit lead. As time expired in the 2nd quarter, Nugent pushed the ball up the court to Visscher, then over to Banfield for a corner 3-pointer. The Ladyjacks led 37-26 at the break.
THIRD + FOURTH QUARTER (SFA led, 60-42 at the End of 3, Final 79-57):
Banfield picked up where she left off in the 3rd quarter with another 3-pointer followed by a Nugent pull-up jumper. SFA shot 6-7 from the field in first four minutes, and Johnson got the lead back up to 21 points with five minutes to play after she hit a 3-pointer herself. UT-Arlington was able to get within 18 points in the second half, but Coach Kellogg's team ran away with a 79-57 win.
UP NEXT: SFA will hit the road to play the University of Houston on Friday, December 11th at 7:00 p.m.
