
Hayes Moves into 30th on All-Time Scoring List Saturday at Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas – The SFA women's basketball team out-rebounded host Lamar inside the Montagne Center on Saturday afternoon but was unable to steal a victory, ultimately falling 62-46. SFA moves to 23-5 on the season and 14-2 in conference play with the result.
TOP SFA PERFORMERS
• Chanell Hayes led SFA with 10 points on 4-8 shooting from the field, also hauling down four rebounds.
• Aiyana Johnson recorded eight points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks.
• Heaven Hamling knocked down two treys off the bench and finished with eight points and six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ladyjacks struck first in the opening quarter, as Alyssa Mayfield knocked down a three ball off a Lamar turnover. The score would be tied, 6-6, at the first media timeout of the first quarter. A four-minute scoreless drought by the Ladyjacks allowed Lamar to take a 14-8 lead at the end of the first.
SFA calmed down the offense to start the second quarter and the move paid immediate dividends, as the 'Jacks trimmed the Cardinal lead to just one point with a 9-2 run spanning six minutes. Lamar would extend that lead by three in the final minutes of the second quarter to take a 25-21 lead into the halftime break.
Lamar would pull away in the third quarter, using a 25-11 scoring edge thanks to highly physical defense that knocked the Ladyjacks off their rhythm. The Cardinals would lead 50-32 heading into the final quarter of play. Altogether, the Ladyjacks were outscored 37- 25 in the second half by the hosts.

• Chanell Hayes moved into 30th all-time on SFA career scoring list, passing former teammate Bretney Branch (2013-17), ending the game with 1,028 career points.
• SFA retains a two-game lead over Abilene Christian and Nicholls for second place in the league standings with two games left to play.
• The Ladyjacks were called for 17 fouls, while Lamar, while the hosts were whistled 13 times.
• SFA would convert on 18-48 (37.5 percent) of shots from the field and 5-18 (27.8 percent) from beyond the arc.
• Hard work on the boards led to a 40-31 rebounding edge for the Ladyjacks, who grabbed 16 offensive boards. Imani Johnson led the 'Jacks with 11 boards.
