Georgiades drives in two, Campbell scores two of SFA's three runs
ARLINGTON, Texas - A never-say-die attitude coupled with a timely Wichita State error handed the SFA baseball team its second victory of the season in dramatic fashion Friday evening.
Junior Josh Campbell crossed home plate in the top of the 11th inning after the Shockers committed their first error of the game and Tyler Starks locked up the 'Jacks' 3-2 triumph by holding Wichita State scoreless in the bottom half of the frame.
SFA snapped a three-game losing skid with their second-ever victory over the Shockers and also locked up its first neutral-site win of the season.
SCORING SUMMARY
B2 | After needing just five pitches to get the first two outs of the frame, Kubo ran into trouble before he could get out of the second. Back-to-back singles and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases and with nine-hole hitter Jack Sigrist at the plate a passed ball allowed the Shockers to take a 1-0 lead before a flyout ended the frame.
B4 | Wichita State doubled its lead in when Paxton Wallace cranked a 1-0 offering from Kubo beyond the fence in left-center field to make matters 2-0. The solo homer was his first of the season and the Shockers' second of 2019.
T7 | After getting absolutely nothing off of Wichita State starter Clayton McGinness, the 'Jacks took advantage once the Shockers went to their bullpen in the seventh. Alex Segal issued four-pitch walks to both Josh Campbell and Jarrod Huber to start the seventh and Antonio Lima moved them into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. After an RBI groundout by Brandon Uhse put the 'Jacks on the board, Jake Georgiades knotted things up at two with a two-out RBI single.
T11 | In its first extra-inning showdown of the season, the 'Jacks got the pivotal run when it counted. After getting hit by a pitch on the first offering of the frame, Josh Campbell moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Trey Erwin. From there, Lima drew a walk and Uhse reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. After that, the Shockers' lone error of the game gave the 'Jacks their first and only lead. Georgiades reached first and notched his second RBI of the game on a fielding miscue by Jordan Boyer at shortstop that pushed Campbell home.
